This Advanced Data Protection and the GDPR online training course is a comprehensive, step-by-step explanation of the purpose of the GDPR, the duties and obligations it places upon organisations and individuals that handle personal information, and the steps that need to be taken to comply with the GDPR.
The Data Protection training course incorporates guidance provided by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and the EU’s Article 29 Working Party, and identifies the key differences between the requirements of the GDPR and the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA) that it replaces.
In 2024, the average cost of a data breach incident in the UK rose by 5% to £3.58 million. A rapid shift to remote working is among the factors fuelling the rise in data breach costs.
The approximate length of this course is 2 to 3 hours.

Why is Data Protection and the GDPR training important?
GDPR was put in place to protect individuals’ personal data and their rights to privacy. Therefore, it places limits on what organisations can do with individuals’ personal data. Each person your organisation holds information about has the right to privacy. Therefore, organisations have a legal duty to store their personal information securely. All individuals within an organisation who handle personal data, or have access to it, have a responsibility to ensure that they work in line with the GDPR. Data Protection and the GDPR training will help to ensure that your organisation complies with the GDPR.
Furthermore, GDPR training can help employees to understand what GDPR is, how it affects your organisation, what are the steps they need to take to protect individual’s data and what are the implications of a breach. Considering that human error is the main cause of data breaches, providing GDPR training to your employees will help to reduce the chances of a data breach within your organisation. This will help you to avoid hefty fines as well as safeguard your organisation’s reputation. This allows customers to trust your business and positions your organisation as a more attractive employer to potential candidates.
Take a look at our article on the 7 principles of GDPR, which explains the key rules for processing individuals’ personal data. Understanding and following the GDPR principles will help you to protect data that you hold and ensure that you remain compliant.
